When it comes to skin care, consistency is key—but it’s also important to be aware of the need to tweak your routine depending on the season. As we move into the summer months, you may find that your skin care needs shift, including which products are right for you and how often they should be used.
Whether you have oily skin, or normal to dry—we’ve outlined the information you need as your skin reacts to the increase in temperature. If you have questions about the routine or the skin care products as you read this post, feel free to send us a message on Facebook!
Your facial cleanser should be a staple in your skin care routine and should be used twice a day. While the reasoning behind nighttime cleansing is obvious (you need to remove your makeup, dirt and sweat that’s accumulated throughout the day!), don’t forget that morning cleansing is just as important!
You may fall asleep with a fresh, clean face, but skin cells accumulate as you rest. A daytime cleanse is your opportunity to remove these dead skin cells and excess oil, providing a clean slate for that day’s makeup.
Serums & Cream
Moisturizing your skin is of the utmost importance—especially when it comes to reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The skin care specialists at Palo Alto recommend maintaining a twice-per-day frequency, even with the increased heat and humidity of the summer. If you feel that your skin is becoming more oily with the warmer temperatures, you may need to opt for a lighter formula than what you’re currently using.
Choosing a summer-friendly moisturizer shouldn’t be an afterthought. It’s important to use a moisturizer that is right for your skin type. Palo Alto’s recommendations for skin types include:
Normal to dry skin: Jan Marini C-ESTA Face Cream, paired with either Jan Marini Transformation Cream or Jan Marini Age Intervention Face Cream (depending on the level of dryness)
Oily Skin: Jan Marini C-ESTA Serum
Incorporating SPF into your daily skin care routine not only helps protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays, but also reduces early skin aging. There are many moisturizing creams and makeup options that include SPF in the formula, making this an easy addition to your morning skin care routine—but just as with all other skin products, you must find the option that is formulated for your skin.
For clients with oily skin, we recommend Jan Marini Antioxidant Daily Face Protectant SPF 33, which combines water-resistant, broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection with oil control and advanced hydration.
Finding the right product for your skin can be an overwhelming task—even with the information we’ve provided here! When making changes to your skin care routine, it is always recommended that you visit a skin care specialist who can help determine the specific needs of your skin.
