Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are a means to shape, restore and contour one’s face resulting in youthful, beautiful, yet natural appearance. Alternatively, dermal fillers can also be used to enhance plumpness where you have always wanted it, such as the lips. At Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care, a variety of dermal fillers are available to treat number of areas like the cheeks, tear trough, lips, undereye circles, chin, and hands to name a few.
Types of Dermal Fillers
Juvederm HA Fillers
There are many HA (hyaluronic acid) fillers to choose from, and they are not created equal. For example, the Allergan Juvederm family of fillers includes Vycross technology Voluma XC- great for cheek contouring, volumizing, and more recently adding also a new indication for chin augmentation. Volbella XC on other hand is more appropriate for the enhancement of lips, delivering natural plumpness and dewiness. Vollure XC is a great choice for those smile creases, also known as nasolabial folds. The newest filler Volux XC is specifically designed to enhance the jawline by building a stronger facial profile.
Restylane
Galderma Restylane family has also many great fillers to choose from. Whether it is Restylane Kysse for the perfect pout or Restylane Lyft to give your hands needed to pick me up.
Sculptra/Radiesse
If more gradual overall rejuvenation is desired, then Sculptra or hyper-diluted Radiesse is a great choice. Both of these products stimulate your body (each in its unique way) to create new collagen at the treatment site. Results take a few weeks to appear, with full results a few months after the treatment. More than one session may be needed for the best results. Patients might prefer this option for a more subtle look that lasts up to two years after the full correction has been achieved. Radiesse is also another great choice to rejuvenate your hands.
RHA
Direct from Switzerland, RHA fillers are now available. Designed specifically to achieve facial dynamics and adapt flawlessly to the complexity of the facial structure, RHA dermal fillers were created to move with the face—which means an even more natural look. This designer filler boasts more organic makeup with less processing than other fillers on the market. Minimal Downtime With Experienced Injectors
How fillers are delivered makes a difference as well. At Palo Alto Laser & Skin Care providers are experts both in needle and blunt cannula treatments. Blunt cannula is gaining popularity due to the decreased risk of bruising after the filler, therefore quicker return to your normal activities. But not to worry as if the needle has to be used and results in a little bit of bruising because Vbeam Perfecta can take that bruise away with quick zap.
The choices can be overwhelming and Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care providers are here to guide you through and help you tailor the choices for your exact needs.

FAQs About Fillers
There are many non-invasive and minimally-invasive treatments that complement dermal fillers. Consider Botox to stop and minimize wrinkles, Kybella to dissolve unwanted fat below the chin, or Fraxel Dual to improve overall facial texture and remove any sun damage.
A reputable professional will never give a patient duck lips or any other unintended look that can be avoided when using dermal fillers. Duck lips are caused by a combination of too much dermal filler, poor injection skill, and sometimes even using the wrong dermal filler for the treatment site.
There is usually only minimal downtime when undergoing HA fillers, especially when blunt cannula is used. However, the injection site can be swollen and tender for a few days after the treatment and there is always chance of some bruising. It is very helpful to avoid any blood-thinning medications as Aspirin, Aleve or Ibuprofen one week before your injection. If any of these medications have been prescribed to you, you should check with your prescribing physician before discontinuing. If bruising still occurs, Vbeam Perfecta laser is very effective at diminishing bruising at no time. Those interested in dermal fillers for a special occasion should plan their treatment around special days, allowing for 1 – 2 weeks between their appointment and the event.
Yes. Many patients do not find dermal filler injections to be uncomfortable, but topical numbing agents are an inherent part of a positive experience. For those who want optimal comfort, Pro-Nox is also available. This is administered by a patient-controlled device and blends oxygen with nitrous for an anesthetic effect. The gas quickly leaves the system and patients are perfectly fine to drive themselves home after the treatment.
