Facial Veins
Treating rosacea or unwanted facial spider veins is quick and safe at Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care. Although visible spider veins or redness are not dangerous, they can be considered undesirable, particularly if they appear on the face. Your local laser skin center is home to highly skilled professionals and one of the largest suites of laser and energy devices in the area. Two primary lasers are the best for removing facial veins and redness, including Candela Vbeam Perfecta and broadband light therapy (BBL), which is a form of intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy.
These two lasers are ideal for diminishing or removing facial spider veins, redness and other vascular lesions, and both are considered gold standards of treatment. There are some important differences between the two lasers that must be understood as you consider these treatments.
Introducing Vbeam Perfecta
The Vbeam Perfecta is a pulsed dye laser, also known as PDL, that directs a concentrated beam of light into broken veins or another vascular target. The result is a “shattering” of that vein into tiny, microscopic pieces. The Vbeam energy is so precise that the target is safely eliminated but the surrounding tissue remains untouched. And thanks to its Micropulse. PDL Technology can deliver treatment without any bruising when compared to some other lasers. Vbeam Perfecta laser can also be used to treat other concerns, such as:
- Cherry angiomas, a type of harmless bright red spot on the skin
- Poikiloderma, a mottled pigmentation changes and redness on sides of the neck
- Striae aka stretchmarks
- Port wine stains
- Birthmarks
- Scars
- Leg spider veins
- Warts on hands or feet
Broadband Light (BBL) Therapy for Facial Veins
BBL is sometimes known as phototherapy and it is the next-generation version of IPL. This device uses multiple light wavelengths to treat skin conditions including facial spider veins. The low-frequency photothermal energy keeps the skin’s surface layers safe while heating up the deeper layers of skin where conditions like facial veins reside. Only the targeted cells absorb BBL energy, leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed, and at the same time new collagen is generated. This collagen-induction aspect of BBL is one reason why it is a favorite not only for treating facial veins, but also these common conditions:
- Sun damage
- Brown spots
- Facial redness
- Active Acne
- Post-acne scarring
- Rosacea
Which laser is best for you? It depends on numerous factors, including whether you strictly want to treat visible blood vessels or are interested in laser therapy for a number of skin concerns. It is not unusual for a patient to enjoy the best results with a combination of Vbeam and BBL therapy. A complimentary consultation is the best first step to determine if laser treatments for facial veins is suitable for you and your goals.

FAQs About Treating Facial Veins
Absolutely. The term “laser” often encompasses a wide range of technologies, including devices that are light-based. Every laser technology offered at Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care has been shown to be safe and effective for many years and when treating thousands of patients. However, lasers are medical devices and therefore there are some safety rules (as avoiding direct sun exposure before and after laser or removing all make up before laser treatment), which your provider will review with you before your treatment.
Results are typically seen 3 – 4 weeks after the treatment. Although the vein is immediately destroyed by the laser, it can take a little while for the body to absorb the treated blood vessels. This is a similar timeframe for customers who also undergo laser treatments for other conditions, such as brown spots and cherry angiomas.
Comfort and safety are our top priorities at Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care. Most clients describe laser skin treatments as feeling like a snap of a rubber band against the skin—or like virtually nothing at all. Thanks to the DCD or Dynamic Cooling Devices on Vbeam Perfecta and the contact chilled sapphire plate with BBL, both treatments have minimal discomfort. However, there are many options to increase comfort including topical numbing creams, Zimmer cooling device and Pro-Nox, a hybrid of oxygen and nitrous oxide. You can rest easy knowing that every treatment is designed with your optimal comfort in mind.
