Hemorrhoids

Dr. William H. Brown, III has over 30 years of experience in treating hemorrhoids and fissures. Hemorrhoids are veins that surround the anus. They can become enlarged from either constipation or diarrhea. When that happens, they bleed very easily. You will notice bright red blood in the toilet. There is usually no pain. This bleeding will usually follow a bowel movement and then stop after a few minutes. The bleeding can be very scary, but it is usually not dangerous. These large veins can be eradicated with a simple in-office procedure called banding. This involves placing a tight rubber band around the base hemorrhoidal vein and then falls off in a few days. The procedure sounds painful but is actually painless and only takes a few minutes. You can rest assure that at Palo Alto Laser & Skin Care in Dr. Brown’s capable hands you will be well taken care of, whether you need help with hemorrhoids or fissures, and for added comfort, you can always add Pro-Nox.

Occasionally hemorrhoids will fill with clotted blood. This is called a thrombosed hemorrhoid.  You will notice a hard lump on the outside of the anus. This lump will be painful. But again, this problem can be easily treated in the office by removing the clots. The process only takes a few minutes. You will feel better right away.

An Anal Fissure is a tear of the skin of the anus. These are very painful with every bowel movement. There are often spasms and a small amount of blood. Fissures are hard to ignore because they are so painful. But a simple injection of Botox and some topical medications will put a smile back on your face.
