Qwo Cellulite Injection

Qwo is the first FDA-approved injection to treat cellulite on the buttocks. Dubbed the “shot for cellulite,” Qwo is made with collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes to create a smoother, more youthful appearance. Currently only available for women, Qwo has quickly become a favorite treatment for women of all ages, shapes, and sizes.

Considering that over 90 percent of women will experience cellulite at some point in their lives and that weight is not necessarily a factor, it’s no surprise that the latest cellulite treatment is in high demand. Cellulite is caused by multiple factors, but a primary contributing factor is fibrous connective tissue, or fibrous septae, which connects the skin perpendicularly to the fascia below the surface.

Septae is comprised of bands of collagen that creates a space for fat to “squeeze” through. The result is visible dimpling and oftentimes weight loss alone will not help the appearance of cellulite. In fact, there are many slender, fit women (including celebrities) who struggle with cellulite. The buttocks area is one of the most common places cellulite is found, which is why Qwo was designed specifically for this problem area.

How Qwo Works

Although the exact mechanism is not known, it is thought that the injection of tiny needles into the treatment area releases the fibrous bands responsible for cellulite dimpled appearance, helps to redistribute fat cells, and stimulates the growth of new collagen in the affected area.

The Qwo benefits include:

  • Smoother-looking skin and a reduction in cellulite for 1+ years
  • Confidence when wearing clothes that reveal the buttocks (such as swimsuits)
  • No surgical risks or the downtime associated with surgery and general anesthesia
  • The ability to opt for additional Qwo injections in the future

Most clients require up to 12 injections per treatment and three sessions spaced 21 days apart. The results usually last at least one year and sometimes much longer. Currently, there is no permanent solution for cellulite. The other treatment options are often either more invasive than Qwo, such as surgery, or less invasive treatments that fail to yield results comparable to Qwo (such as lasers).

Bruising is the most common side effect associated with Qwo injections, and it can be substantial. However, just like any other bruise, Qwo-related bruises will fade within few weeks. The majority of clients can immediately get back to their daily routine after injections. All of the possible side effects and precautions will be discussed in detail during your Qwo consultation.

FAQs About Qwo Cellulite Injections

Why can’t men get Qwo or women get the shot in other areas?2021-06-28T07:52:57-07:00

Right now, the FDA has only approved Qwo for injection in adult women’s buttocks. This may change in the future as technology evolves.

Why doesn’t Qwo last forever?2021-06-28T07:52:07-07:00

No cellulite treatment lasts forever, and even the more aggressive surgical options only last up to three years on average. Qwo (and other cellulite treatments) are not permanent because the septae will continue to change and evolve, and fat will once more get squeezed between the fibrous bands. However, clients can choose to undergo additional Qwo treatments when their previous treatment has run its course.

How severe is the bruising with Qwo?2021-06-28T07:51:29-07:00

Bruising is a common side effect of Qwo and it can look moderate to severe in many cases on the first treatment and mild to moderate on the second and third treatment in most patients. However, since Qwo is injected in the buttocks, this is a part of the body that is not visible on most days for most people. Bruising will subside within 2-3 weeks on average, and often much quicker.

Is Qwo painful?2021-06-28T07:54:26-07:00

Qwo involves up to 12 injections per session using very small needles. The buttocks are a not as sensitive area and injections are typically tolerated in this region quite well. Clients who are comfortable with injections such as Botox or dermal fillers usually tolerate Qwo very well and often find it more comfortable than other cosmetic injections.

Does Qwo tighten skin and/or remove fat?2021-06-28T07:48:43-07:00

Qwo is a temporary cellulite reduction treatment, not a skin tightening procedure or contouring procedure. However, there are skin tightening procedures and contouring options such as Thermage FLX that can be excellent complements to Qwo.
