Laser Hair Reduction
Tired of buying razors or painful waxing? Permanent laser hair reduction is your chance to dramatically minimize body or facial hair. The result is a lot less time spent shaving, waxing, sugaring, and generally tending to unwanted hair. It is estimated that women spend a total of 72 days of their life removing unwanted hair and men spend 45 days tending to this daily chore. Laser hair reduction is safe for all skin , given that the appropriate laser is available. This treatment is a specialty at Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care, home to over one dozen types of the latest laser and energy technologies and laser experts who can achieve the best results for you. And yes – we do have the appropriate laser for lighter and darker skin types to treat every patient safely.
There are two primary laser hair reduction technologies that are best suited to getting the smooth, silky skin you desire in all skin types. The Candela GentleMax Pro is equipped with dual wavelength 755 Alexandrite and the 1064 Long-Pulsed Nd:YAG lasers. There are some key differences between the two options, and as with any laser treatment it is paramount that clients are matched with the best technology for their unique skin and hair type.
755nm Alexandrite Laser For Lighter Skin Tones
The Alexandrite laser is recommended for those with lighter skin tones. The wavelength of the 755nm Alexandrite allows the laser beam to penetrate as deep as hair grows. Due to its power and depth, the Alexandrite laser works much faster than many other types of lasers that patients may have heard about or even experienced before, such as the diode lasers and ruby laser. The Alexandrite laser is not recommended for those with darker skin tones or tan skin. These patients are a better fit for the YAG laser.
YAG Laser For Darker Skin Tones
The YAG laser is the only safe solution for hair reduction in those with darker skin tones. If you have been told before that the amount of melanin you have makes you an unsuitable candidate for laser hair reduction, that is probably because the laser center, clinic or MedSpa you approached did not have the YAG laser technology available. For many years, clients with darker skin tones were told there simply wasn’t the right technology to treat and reduce their unwanted hair without the risk of skin pigmentation changes, but the YAG laser has changed everything.

This is due in large part to dynamic cooling or DCD features built into the system. However, at this laser center, clients can also opt for Pro-Nox for nearly any procedure. This patient-controlled device delivers a blend of oxygen and nitrous oxide for maximum comfort with no drowsiness afterward. Topical numbing can be used before treatment as well if desired.
