Morpheus8 is the latest skin tightening procedure on the market, and it is now available at Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care. Combining the power of microneedling with radiofrequency (RF), this collagen induction therapy offers results within a week—and results that keep improving for months. It works by targeting multiple layers of the skin so that results are optimized. But how does it compare to other skin tightening treatments? According to a 2019 study, “Determining the Effectiveness of Non-Surgical Skin Tightening Methods,” published by Kalamazoo College, there is simply no comparison as Morpheus8 outshines them all.
The study looked at how three types of minimally invasive skin tightening treatments compared to one another, including Morpheus8, Thermage, and FaceTite/NeckTite. All participants were also patients at Grossman Dermatology, a private practice in California. More than 50 patients agreed to have their files shared with the researchers so they could gauge effectiveness—specifically, if skin appeared tighter after their treatment. Researchers were also looking to see which method was most effective in each specific area, but only Thermage and Morpheus8 could be used to study the cheeks (as FaceTite/NeckTite does not address that area).
Study Results: Morpheus8 on Top
The researchers found that all three treatments indeed tightened the skin of the treatment site. In fact, they delivered “statistically significant decreases in volume and surface of skin.” When it came to the cheek region, Morpheus8 outperformed Thermage much of the time. According to the researchers “This suggests that the invasiveness and strength of a procedure does not necessarily guarantee the best results.” In other words, just because a treatment is surgical or very powerful (such as outdated deep chemical peels that require weeks of healing) does not mean that it is going to yield the best results. The researchers remark that their findings were “unexpected,” but call for more research before “understand[ing] why this [great results with minimal invasiveness] is the case.” It should be noted that this was a third-party study, unlike some studies commissioned by makers of the technologies being analyzed.
Studies on laser and complementary technologies can help guide clients in choosing a treatment. Even when a tech is FDA-approved, there is usually still a lot of research that can be undertaken to better understand it. Since Morpheus8 is relatively new to the market, it’s understandable that you want to have the best possible understanding of its safety and effectiveness. That’s why it’s important to work exclusively with expert providers like those at Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care.
What does this mean for clients like you who are considering skin tightening procedures? You may find it best to combine treatments, and not necessarily stick strictly with skin tightening treatments like Morpheus8 and Thermage. In most cases, tempering complementary treatments, such as Morpheus8 with a light chemical peel or laser technology, can take your results to the next level. It is rare that a singular treatment is going to give you the absolute best results, though every treatment at Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care has been carefully selected because it has shown time and time again to give you beautiful, natural-looking results. Ultimately, a customized treatment plan is the best approach for skin care.
