“Smart” Dermal Fillers Top the Marie Claire Most Popular Beauty Trends of 2021 List

“Smart” Dermal Fillers Top Marie Claire | Palo Alto Laser & Skin Care

It’s not just any dermal filler that tops the charts of the annual Marie Claire beauty trend list, but smart fillers. What’s the difference? Quite a bit, and at Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care we’ve been offering smart dermal fillers for quite some time. Under the guidance and training of Zuzana Likar, we are much more than a medical day spa. We are your source for all of the latest tools, techniques, and treatments to achieve the aesthetic you desire.

So, what exactly is a smart dermal filler? It can mean quite a few things, starting with the application strategy. Increasingly, the overall approach has been to treat the entire face and not just targeted features. This often means injecting smaller amounts of filler in more areas. Small changes more frequently are on-trend, and that’s a good thing. Dermal fillers can and should be a routine part of sustaining one’s confidence, rather than the unfortunate and outdated trend of seeing an injector once a year to plump up the lips.

Fillers Beyond the Lips

Dermal fillers are designed to add volume to the face (and sometimes the hands), and although some fillers are meant specifically for the lips they do not make up the majority. You can improve several features when taking a smart approach, such as reducing dark circles under the eyes, strengthening the jawline, and even minimizing lines and wrinkles.

Plus, the fillers themselves are getting more and more sophisticated. Consider the latest offering from Restylane, Restylane Contour, which is made with hyaluronic acid (HA) to give the cheeks that organic “bounce” that wasn’t always possible with heavier fillers. Even though most fillers are comprised of HA, little variations in their makeup can make a big difference. For example, with Contour, Restylane used the XpresHAn technology so that the filler can achieve dynamic movement. It moves with the face.

News on RHA Fillers

Speaking of fillers that move, another big achievement in recent years are RHA fillers. The Swiss designer company of the fillers has offered RHA options for some time in Europe, but just recently arrived in the United States. Their product has some similarities to Contour, but it is designed for the entire mid-face. These new formulas are drastically changing the world of fillers as the market “smartens” up—but this isn’t the only change taking place.

FDA Movement

Fillers and other products are often used off-label (think Botox used for sweating or migraines). However, the FDA has recently expanded the uses for many dermal fillers. For instance, Restylane’s Defyne and Juvederm’s Voluma have recently been granted FDA approved for chin augmentation. In other words, the FDA now okays the use of these popular fillers to reduce the appearance of a recessed and/or double chin. A “weak chin” can make a person look heavier and older than they are, and prior to dermal fillers there were few non-surgical means of fixing this common issue.

During the era of Zoom, many people got an unpleasant view of how they looked on camera. This led to a skyrocketing demand for non-surgical treatments, particularly to address the chin and jaw. Sometimes known as masseter injections, both dermal fillers and neurotoxins like Botox can help better define the jaw.

The New Era of Fillers

As dermal fillers continue to get better and better, and injectors get “wiser,” you have a myriad of new tools and techniques at your disposal to look and feel your best. A lot of people will not completely step away from Zoom calls anytime soon, and as we become more aware of our aesthetic it’s important to know that tools are available to increase confidence and self-esteem.

Dermal fillers are a safe and effective way of enacting big change during a short appointment. HA filler results are immediate with minimal side effects (swelling and redness typically resolve in a couple of days).
