There are So Many Options for Dermal Fillers | Palo Alto Laser & Skin Care

Restylane, Juvederm, Sculptra—why are there so many choices when it comes to dermal fillers? Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care offers only the most reputable and safest dermal filler options for your needs, and there are a lot. Zuzana Likar personally trains and supervises every staff member to the highest standards, which means you’re not only getting all of the top choices for dermal fillers here, but also the peace of mind in knowing that your injector is well-trained and experienced. But why exactly are there so many filler choices?

The answer is relatively simple: everyone has different needs and goals. Our bodies are unique, and what works for one person to achieve their goal might not work for someone else. One person might want to fill in lines and wrinkles that can barely be seen while another might be ready to tackle deep creases. Broadly put, some dermal fillers are meant to reduce the appearance of all types of lines and wrinkles while others are meant to add volume (think lip augmentation). There are different makers of dermal fillers, and within these brands are additional types of fillers.

A Small Breakdown of Dermal Fillers

Most dermal fillers are made with hyaluronic acid (HA), which is already found naturally in the body. This greatly helps in making sure the body doesn’t reject these products as HA is not foreign to the human body. Juvederm is one of the most popular dermal fillers, and the original Juvederm is a great choice for filling in wrinkles and creases. There’s also Juvederm Voluma for the cheeks and Juvederm Volbella for the lips.

Restylane is another well-known dermal filler family, with Restylane Lyft meant to add volume to the cheeks but also used to fill in deeper lines and wrinkles. Radiesse is a fan favorite for lines and creases as well. There’s also Sculptra, which is not part of the HA category of fillers. Unlike HA fillers that provide instant results (sometimes with a little initial swelling), Sculptra works over time. It does not use HA, but rather it encourages the body to create collagen at the target site. Sculptra results last longer than HA fillers, with an average of two years, but it can take up to six months for full results to show. This dermal filler is a top choice for those who want subtle and very natural results.

It’s What’s on the Inside That Counts

Even though most dermal fillers are made with HA, HA can be manipulated to provide different results and last different lengths of time. This is yet another reason why there are so many filler options. The ingredients of a dermal filler dictate results, but so does the injected location. Juvederm, for example, features dermal fillers meant to work in various areas based on the exact formula of the ingredients. Even a slight change in the formula can drastically change the results. For instance, Juvederm Voluma has a high viscosity and is very thick. This helps it to really add intense volume that lasts up to two years. The standard Juvederm product makeup is a lot thinner and is better suited for treating lines and wrinkles.

Radiesse doesn’t use HA, but rather calcium hydroxyapatite. This is a great ingredient for lines and creases and works in two ways. First, it adds instant volume and then helps with collagen induction. This new collagen doesn’t just add more volume but also helps to support the area so that wrinkles remain subtle even after the filler has dissolved (as all fillers do).
