Are Your Eyes Giving Away Your Age? | Palo Alto Laser & Skin Care

The area around the eyes is where most people first see signs of aging and sun damage, with many people noticing fine lines and wrinkles as early as their late teens. Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care has options to tighten and smooth skin around the eyes no matter your age, skin tone/type, or the severity of wrinkles, sagging, or drooping. Zuzana Likar trains every member of the staff to the highest standards, and consultations on all treatments are always complimentary. Let’s work together to create a plan just for you so that you can look younger and healthier just in time for summer.

Those in their late teens and 20s are often drawn to Botox to both treat wrinkles and prevent them. This neuromodulator and its counterparts, such as Dysport, are a fantastic solution. Botox can be injected just about anywhere, including the corners of the eyes. However, bear in mind that the skill of your injector is equally as important as the treatment. Properly administered Botox injections look natural and allow for organic movement around the eyes. “Baby Botox,” or smaller units in delicate areas, is a great approach for younger clients with minimal signs of aging around the eyes.

Options for More Severe Wrinkles and Sagging

Those in their 30s and better often need something stronger than “just” Botox, such as lasers and Morpheus8. However, the vast majority of these more aggressive treatments can also pair well with Botox—in fact, mixing and matching procedures is a great way to achieve the best possible results. However, how can you determine which treatment is right for you?

Not every laser and laser-aligned treatment is suitable for treating the delicate eye area. However, we have the best devices that have shown to be safe and effective on many areas of the body including this vulnerable area. We have Fraxel Dual, CO2RE, Thermage FLX, and Morpheus8. All of these can be a good fit for those in their 30s – 50s.

Both Fraxel Dual and CO2RE are laser technologies with modalities that make them suitable for treating around the eyes and other delicate areas like the mouth. Thermage FLX is a collagen induction therapy that uses heat energy to kick-start collagen synthesis. Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency technology so you get the benefits of both microneedling and RF when revitalizing your skin.

Treatments for Advanced Wrinkles

After the age of about 50, you may need surgery such as a lower or upper blepharoplasty to remove excess skin that causes ptosis (severe sagging) and bags. However, remember that surgery does not change the quality of the remaining skin itself. This is why it’s a good idea to follow up surgery with non-surgical treatments such as lasers or Morpheus8. At Palo Alto Laser and Skin Care, we routinely work with clients who had facial cosmetic surgery in the past and are now looking to take their results to the next level. Plus, in the case of scarring, non-surgical treatments can help to soothe and minimize the scar’s appearance.

The Eyes Have It

There are also less aggressive means of treating the area around the eyes, such as a light chemical peel and in-office facials. This part of the body will always be prone to early aging since the skin is thin, fragile, and many people don’t apply sunscreen as liberally as they should. The good news is that there are always options available to turn back the clock.

However, there is no one size fits all solution for any skin concern (including wrinkles around the eyes). You deserve a customized plan designed just for you. There are many factors to consider such as your skin tone (as some lasers should not be used on those with a lot of melanin), goals, and time. Some lasers require multiple sessions to get the full results, while Botox’s complete results are visible in about one week. If you want to freshen up the eyes for an event that’s just around the corner, opting for a quick solution now and working towards a more long-term solution afterward can be a solid strategy.
